We aren't at a point in our lives where we can afford fancy ingredients each month, we can't always be in town at the same time, and sometimes we just need a break (not from each other psh we're best friends).
That being said, the girls here at SF have gotten together since Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-68085033247486085202012-11-04T15:51:00.001-07:002012-11-04T15:51:21.987-07:00Second Friday goes Italian!
We're back!
Have you missed us? We sure missed you and cooking! Well mostly cooking.... just kidding.
Ahem, so Second Friday was awesome to the max. And of course it wouldn't be SF if the following happened:
1. We didn't take a whole lot of pictures
2. Some pictures are blurry
3. Missed out on some great photo ops
Get what we're getting at? The photo taking still needs some work Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-10632401146291072962012-10-01T17:55:00.000-07:002012-10-01T17:55:05.590-07:00We know what you're thinking...We know, it's been a while but good things come to those who wait.
You've probably been wondering just where have we been?
And who are we? That's a secret we'll never tell, you know you love us. XOXO Gossip Gi-....
Wait, we took that one too far, you know who we are, and if our own blogs haven't explained our absence let us now do that.
Plain and simple?
Life is full of stuff.
Elaborate?
Man Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-49763487177440917812012-07-19T09:49:00.000-07:002012-07-19T09:49:04.410-07:00Summer Veggies!
So keeping true to our theme of panini night, our side dish was grilled veggies! We absolutely LOVE grilled veggies so it seemed like the perfect thing to make! Plus we had a brilliant idea to make our own sauce to go over the grilled veggies. It was delicious! Let's dive in!
So first things first the sauce we made was a balsamic citrus vinaigrette.
Cast of characters: balsamic vinegar,Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-49255480413595114512012-06-04T12:43:00.000-07:002012-06-04T12:43:27.267-07:00June Second FridayOur first summer Second Friday is quickly approaching and we've got such great ideas in store! The theme for this month is...
Panini Night!
That's right, Kelsey and Alixx have been long time fans of panini grills and ever since Kelsey got her new one for graduation, the love of panini has increased exponentially! So we decided to go ahead and make everything on the panini, from the main Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-41976278028274652102012-05-08T15:26:00.000-07:002012-05-08T15:26:20.127-07:00May Second Friday! What a special one it will be!
Friday morning, Alixx will be graduating with her Masters!
Obviously Kelsey will be there to cheer her on and celebrate! Isn't it wonderful that this awesome, special occasion fell on Second Friday? It's fate.
Second Friday will still be spent eating good food, Alixx just hasn't decided where she wants to go for lunch.
We'll keep you Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-28540023269003371122012-04-30T19:26:00.002-07:002012-04-30T19:26:25.501-07:00Bacon-Wrapped Pizza Rolls
Not a whole lot makes sense in this crazy crazy world. But there is one thing you can count on, Bacon-wrapped pizza rolls. Hallelujah.
Cast of characters: pizza rolls, and bacon. This is seriously the easiest, most delicious thing you will ever eat. EVER.
Line a baking sheet with foil.
Make sure your bacon is completely defrosted, but the pizza rolls themselves are frozen. Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-83265505759971140372012-04-23T16:32:00.001-07:002012-04-23T16:32:07.406-07:00Oreo Balls
Need to make a fast, simple, cheap dessert? Look no further!
Cast of characters: 1 package of Oreos, 16 ounces of cream cheese, white chocolate chips. Sorry for the lack of photo on this one, but it's simple enough!
Take the Oreos, place in a bag and smash away. It is quite the stress reliever, but don't bust the bag open! Then you'll have to eat Oreo's off the floor. We wouldn't Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-32084454255526236772012-04-20T09:44:00.000-07:002012-04-20T09:44:50.567-07:007 Layer Bean Dip
Ohhh 7 layer bean dip. How you make our hearts sing.
Cast of Characters: refried beans, taco seasoning, red onion (not pictured), sour cream, Mexican shredded cheese, lettuce, salsa, and green onions.
Start by mixing 1 tablespoon of the taco seasoning into the refried beans. Then really try your darnedest not to eat the beans before they become the dip. Just wanted to share a couple more photos from the night, especially the sushi photos.
Now Kelsey had the fantastic idea to go to Costco and pick up sushi, and it was a STEAL!
Look at that. Three different kinds of sushi, plus some big 'ol shrimp spring rolls...
Plus Alixx had some Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-63881657861281820402012-04-13T21:01:00.000-07:002012-04-13T21:01:03.454-07:00Interview About Us: By Us.Oh hey there. Well here we are... it's Second Friday. How are you feeling? We want to make this seem like a seductive intro. Are you pleased? Please read this in your deepest, sultry-esque voice.
Anyway! So far we've feasted on sushi, spring rolls, and potstickers.
We just made the bacon wrapped pizza rolls, and finished making the Oreo balls. Amen.
Until our feature Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-58396720836250588152012-04-09T15:58:00.000-07:002012-04-09T15:58:34.259-07:00April Second FridayThank goodness it's almost Second Friday. Kelsey & Alixx could sure use it! We've both been mega stressed/busy with school this semester... So what better way to spend SF than with a chillaxed night? A night that will consist of our favorite foods and a showing of The Monster Ball Tour HBO special Lady Gaga made. Oh and just two best friends hanging out. Can't Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-61458636870966267342012-04-06T20:20:00.002-07:002012-04-06T20:20:36.296-07:00Chocolate Orange Guinness Cake
Now for St. Patrick's we wanted to do a very non-traditional type theme but still keeping true to the key points. Well except when it came to dessert. We made a very traditional Irish dessert, Chocolate Orange Guinness Cake.
Plus it was perfect for orange picking in Alixx's yard. Yea for fresh fruit!
Cast of characters: butter, salt, orange, eggs, brown sugar, flour, baking soda,Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-87822128137267711202012-04-04T22:11:00.003-07:002012-04-04T22:11:39.837-07:00Corned Beef with Guinness Sauce
So the main course for our Irish Adventure was Corned Beef with a Guinness Sauce. Now the cooking of the corned beef was simple enough but since it had to sit for quite a few hours in the crock pot, Alixx went ahead and got it all set up in the morning:
Cast of characters: corned beef (~3lbs.), carrots, onion, potatoes, celery, ginger ale.
Cut the carrots into thick slices Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-56538402100849879392012-04-03T23:00:00.001-07:002012-04-03T23:00:31.078-07:00Coleslaw
So our very first recipe was coleslaw! It was such an adventure. We tried a lot of different ingredients and it turned out amazing. Well, maybe we put too many ingredients but it was still amazing. Maybe we'll go back and revisit this bad boy, but for now this is our very own Coleslaw recipe!
Cast of characters: Mayo, cabbage, pepper, light corn syrup, sandwich spread, pineapple vinegar, Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-46712167631208593552012-04-02T23:02:00.000-07:002012-04-02T23:02:46.318-07:00Hasselback Potatoes
Oh hasselback potatoes are so simple and delicious to make. We suggest you make it today for dinner. Or lunch. Or snack. Or breakfast. Just make them!
Now we decided we wanted to do a bacon-garlic potato but just remember you can put whatever you like in it. Get creative! Cast: potatoes, bacon, garlic, butter, and olive oil.
First make your butter and olive oil mix. Nothing to complicated Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-26340748879659065922012-03-26T16:21:00.000-07:002012-03-26T16:21:47.067-07:00I regret to inform you...To Whom it May Concern,
You may have wondered hey, what ever happened to those delicious recipes that were coming our way? Well truth be told we really wanted them out in time for St. Patrick's Day in case you felt the urge to try something different for the meal. But alas I've dropped the ball.
I've been utterly involved with my thesis writing that I've done nothing else but mope around about Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-9286501938231995512012-03-11T19:06:00.001-07:002012-03-11T19:06:10.792-07:00Irish Adventure
Well our Irish Adventure was a ton of fun on Friday. We made a bunch of the menu items from scratch with no actual recipes! It was exhilarating, and exhausting but so so worth it!
To get started Kelsey picked Alixx up do get some shopping done. Aw happy happy Manuel! (Kelsey's car)
Made a quick pit stop at Kelsey's place to grab some eggs and a Tupperware for future Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-43187910844257914442012-03-07T16:52:00.000-07:002012-03-07T16:52:27.056-07:00March Second FridayWell, March sure did creep up on us! But in some regards that's awesome, because that means another Second Friday!
Now with St. Patrick's day coming up this month, we thought we'd take the traditional St. Patty's day menu and make it our own! Excited? We are!
This is what were making (this isn't our usual posting routine, but we're short on time and want to tell you what we're doing)...&Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-16339694873832997352012-02-29T19:09:00.001-07:002012-02-29T19:09:21.140-07:00Crème Brûlée
Now we aren't gonna lie, we had a lot of people telling us that this dessert was going to cause us heart pain. A LOT of heart pain.
But surprisingly, it was awesome! Awesome meaning zero freak outs and one very funny moment that lasted quite some time. Read on!
Ingredients: sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and heavy whipping cream.
The very first move is to get Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-75295770375489287692012-02-27T12:13:00.000-07:002012-02-27T12:13:15.043-07:00Chocolate Swirl Cake
So a Valentine's themed dinner is all about the desserts, right? RIGHT.
The line-up: devil's food cake mix, sugar, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, cream cheese, eggs, white chocolate chips.
This recipe is actually really simple to make, just make the chocolate cake according to the instructions on the back of the box.
For the cream cheese type filling add the cream Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-25968205727529576252012-02-25T13:41:00.001-07:002012-02-25T13:41:19.482-07:00Spinach with Hot Bacon Dressing
Our little side dish was another delicious item. Rule of Life #1: You can never go wrong with bacon.
Cast of characters: bacon, sugar, lime juice, onions, salt n' peppa, white vinegar and cornstarch. Not pictured: Water
Remember how we said we used the chopper to cut up our onion to protect our precious eyes? Yea... we didn't even think of it when we cut them up for this Kelsey and Alixxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09104988388046389813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3618105782376444062.post-26792763307099011282012-02-24T10:01:00.000-07:002012-02-24T10:01:04.346-07:00Steak with Creamy Whiskey Mushroom Sauce
